The previous entire month has not been one to remember for the Indian cricket fans. The world cup final loss after a successful campaign had a deep impact on the fans of the game. The dejected fans were further left infuriated with the loss of T20 series against Australia and loss of T20 series against England women's team. And bringing some joy of compensation the youth fared against South Africa. And finally after a month, Indians witnessed a significant level of happiness as the proud daughters of India defeated England women by a mammoth 347 runs in the one off test match which ended today.

Indian women, who were playing red ball cricket after a couple of years were determined to make it count. And when they did, it sent waves of happiness and admiration for them. A clinical performance from the team questioned on whether really the team was away for so long period in the whites? Or was it just an illusion. The long gap in between the two red ball encounters didn't affect them one bit, as they thrashed the dominant English team, thereby registering the largest victory by margin of runs in women's test cricket history.

Right from the moment go, Women in Blue made their plans clear, as they didn't allow the English bowlers to settle after choosing to bat first. When the openers fell, the two debutants Shubha Satheesh and Jemimah Rodrigues made sure the scorecard is ticking quicker. When they fell, skipper Harman and Yastika continued to showcase their elegant drives and put English team on backfoot. Furthermore, Deepthi Sharma's patient yet impactful innings had India in a great position with 410 runs on the first day itself. Half-centuries from Shubha, Jemimah, Yastika and Deepthi propelled India to their highest and overall second highest total in a single day.

A good total of 428 was already tough for England, and Indian bowlers further did the job of decimating the English confidence. Bundling the English women for a mere 136 runs, the fate of the match was almost sealed. Deepthi starred for India with a fantastic 5-for. A lead of 288 had India in the driver's seat. Going ahead, Indian batters continued from their first innings and made batting looked easy scoring 186 runs before declaring. And yet again, Indian bowlers did spun their web to perfection, allowing the English team to only reach 131 runs. And with it, the Indian team registered their first ever test victory against England, and went on to history books by registering the largest victory in terms of margin of runs.

The team overly compensated for the T20 series loss, and now look to go ahead with the same confidence in the series against Australia. With a great collective effort in the field, with the bat as well as ball, the team looks set to take on the most dominant side in women's cricket. Indian batters look in great touch, their bowlers are spinning the web to perfection, and their allrounders like Deepthi Sharma are finding every way to contribute to the team's cause in the right direction. And if not anything else, the least played format of the game in women's cricket, seems to have suddenly got a much needed revival.

Whether or not a 5 day test is required for womens cricket is still a matter of debate. A 4 day match is good enough to to get a result. The ongoing test yielded result in just a matter of 2 and half days. So the duration might be a question for the future. But one thing which can be surely said is that the the number of tests surely need to increase. A total of just 3 test series played by Indian since the past decade is surely concerning, however the manner in which they are played is pleasing to the eyes of every spectator watching it. And unlike a long gap of 2 years when Women in Blue hadn't played any game in whites, the next one is aligned up right in next 4 days to come. And going ahead in the same, with a team beaming with confidence would surely make it worth watching. A great test waits ahead in front of all of us. And a great test ends for India, with our daughter holding their heads high with pride. We congratulate entire team, captain and coach Amol Muzumdar for the victory and wish to see a similar result in the team's encounter against Australia.
