Indian women's A team are crowned as the champions of the ACC women's emerging Asia Cup 2023. In a series mostly affected by rains, India managed to win the finals by defeating Bangladesh in a low scoring match . Kanika Ahuja was the star of India whose all round performance helped India clinch on the title.
On a wicket , which hardly had anything to offer for batters, it was difficult to get going. Barring Vrinda Dinesh and Kanika Ahuja, none of the batters got going. Scoring 36 and 30 respectively, both of them took India to a respectable total of 127. Nahida A and Sultana Khatun starred for Bangla team with the ball.
The target of 128 looked lesser, however Indian bowlers had different plans. Yet again, Shreyanka's heroics with the ball helped India. Shreyanka , along with Mannat Kashyap pierced into the Bangladesh batting line-up. Grabbing 4 and 3 wickets respectively, they never gave a chance to Bangladesh team, and helped India comfortably win the match by 31 runs. Kanika Ahuja and Titas Sadhu had their share with the ball grabbing 2 and 1 wickets respectively.
Bangladesh who were high on confidence after defeating Pakistan in the semi finals looked clueless against Indian bowling. While they were bowling good, Kanika Ahuja and Vrinda Dinesh denied them to restrict India to a low total. They were defeated by a better side in the form of India.
This tournament, meant to find young talent for countries has paid off massively. Post the U-19 women's world cup triumph from India, it's not the emerging Asia Cup which they have won. And the likes of Shreyanka Patil, Kanika Ahuja, Vrinda Dinesh, Mannat Kashyap and many others have proved their mettle. Looking at the way U-19 world cup, WPL and the emerging Asia Cup happened, it's fair to say that future of Indian women's team is in safe hands.
