Prithvi Shaw hit the headlines few days back for his record breaking innings of 244 runs against Somerset. And continuing his sublime touch with the bat, today he hit an unbeaten century to take his team to a victory against Durham. Right from the word go, he started to attack the Durham bowlers, as a result of which a target of 199 runs was chased by Northamptonshire in the 26th over itself.
It looked like he is batting on a different pitch than others, as the second best individual score considering players from both the sides was 42. He looks confident and his confidence reflected in the way he batted as he hit 15 boundaries and 7 sixes out eventually remaining unbeaten on 125 runs off just 76 deliveries. He scored 102 runs just of the boundaries. In the past 2 innings, he has lit the Royal London One day cup stage.
His debut for Northamptonshire was a sight he might not want to watch. He was dismissed by an unusual hit wicket after scoring 34 runs. But since then, he is on a rampage. And the way he is batting, it seems like he has gained the confidence which he had lost in the Indian domestic circuit and IPL season this year. In the last match, his heroics helped his team register a mammoth total of 414 runs and win the game by 87 runs, and today his quick fire century helped the team win with 146 balls to spare.
It looks like he is heartbroken for the fact that he was not included even in the second string Indian teams touring Ireland and Asian Games. Prithvi had earlier showed lot of promise on his debut in all the formats he has played for India. However, past few months have not gone his way. Barring few innings in domestic circuit, he hasn't got going. Therefore, him getting to play for Northamptonshire was already a blessing in disguise to regain his confidence, and additionally it would help understand the English conditions better. And there could be no better way to regain your confidence than scoring a record breaking double hundred, followed by an unbeaten hundred. He is making a statement to the selectors and is knocking the doors of the team loudly. Hopefully, sooner he gets a chance to play again for Men in Blue.
