With a magnificent century , Yashasvi Jaiswal announced his arrival in test cricket in style. He impressed everyone. Cricket fans to legends of the game are all in admiration of the southpaw , who is hitting the headlines for all the right reasons. And he is proving why the team backed him. He surely is the future superstar of Indian cricket, and he is enjoying being at the top.
However, his success is not overnight. His tale is not a fairytale. His tale is one to tell for everyone who has a dream and perseverance to fulfil it. His tale is of grit, unparalleled love for the game, and unvawering dedication, in spite facing all the odds to reach to the level he deserves. He has struggled his own way to make it to this level. And in process he has won million, and billions of hearts.
The literal meaning of word Yashasvi means "to succeed". And this young sensation just proved it. He proved that no matter what odds come your way, if you continue to give your best, fate will take care of the rest for you. His tale will bring tears to some eyes, and will fill everyone's heart with pride with what he has now achieved.
Cricket made his life. But prior to that, cricket made his life hell. It all starts few years back , when Yashasvi's love for the game brought him to city of dreams Mumbai. Some time later his father wanted to go back to their hometown in Uttar Pradesh. But a teen Yashasvi insisted his father to let him stay here. And he stayed as father left for his hometown.
The days were tough for Yashasvi. Finances were an issue, and due to the same, his house owner asked him to leave. He was utterly depressed. Without knowing what to do, he was clueless. And at that point, he was offered a tent, if he performed well. Yashasvi performed well, and got the permission to stay in tent near to the ground where he practiced. However staying in tent for a day, and staying for days are two different things.
Things really got tough for him. Tent was only a piece of cloth good enough for him to cover his body at night. Tent would not prevent rainwater from coming inside. There were lot of issues he had to face. Tent lacked the drinking water, and toilet. Even for the very basic needs, he had to find an alternative. Basically, tent was just a small place where he could reside.
He saw worst of the days. On one side, he continued to achieve accolades playing the game, but on other side he didn't have place to store them. At times, he would often sleep hungry. In order to help himself financially, he started to worked at a stall to sell panipuri (Indian Street food). All what he did was without his family's knowledge, as they would've called him back if they saw what their child was doing in order to play.
He used to score century in the morning. And in the evening he sold panipuris for a living. There were times when he was left embarrassed when his teammates came to eat panipuri at the stall he was working at. He was getting depressed. He wasn't going anywhere in life. But he continued. He didn't stop. It was a tough life but ne never gave up on it, looking at his dream. And finally his efforts were noticed by coach Jwala Singh in 2013, who personally trained him and took care of all his expenses.
Since then , he was solely able to focus on the game. Jwala Singh had heavily invested in him. And his favourite pupil didn't disappoint him. His feat of triple century and 13 wickets in a test match drew first light on him. Thereafter, he didn't look back. He was selected for Mumbai U-16 team, Mumbai senior team, India U-19 team. He performed exceptionally well in all of these. He was the highest run scorer in 2020 U-19 world cup. Infact he was the lone man standing for India in the final scoring 88 runs out of 176 against Bangladesh.
India did lose the match, but his efforts were applauded. His attitude of never giving up was a great sight to watch. He had learnt it from his life to never give up, and he applied it all in the games he played. He never feared any bowlers. And it reflected in his great performance. It was also seen clearly in the IPL 2023 when he showed his class. And his IPL heroics, combined with great contribution in domestic circuit for Mumbai, eventually won him a well deserved India cap. And the rest is history.
The tale of Jaiswal is inspiring. It shows that what a person can do for the sake of love for the game. It shows that no matter what you are going through, never ever stop. If you continue to work hard, you are bound to succeed. Yashasvi's tale teaches everyone to dream big , and to never ever give up on the dream. It made him a sensation. And now his dream of becoming the best, is a billion people's dream. And looking at the way he is going , it will happen for sure. We congratulate him for the amazing debut, and wish to see him keep inspiring everyone with his accolades.
