The most amazing thing about IPL is seeing new and unheard Indian talents, becoming household names due to their amazing performances. There's no better sight than the local boys taking the center stage of the grandest franchise league in world cricket. It started off with Swapnil Asnodkar in the inaugral edition of IPL. And every new season there are a few names. This season saw the rise of Mayank Yadav and promise in the form of Nitish Reddy. But the most amazing and consistently performing players out of all these are undoubtedly Shashank Singh and Ashutosh Sharma.
Mostly unheard of by most of the cricket fans, now they are making sure that their performance speaks out louder. Shashank Singh was still known upto a certain extent owing to the widespread rumour of him being chosen as a mistake, but Ashutosh Sharma was not much heard of. And both made sure that now people won't forget them. Shashank made it sure that he is changing spectator's views about him 180 degrees, and Ashutosh gave no chance to any trollers or critics to troll or criticize him.
The sensational display of batting by the duo is massively aiding the Punjab Kings, who were reeling back very badly in the previous matches. In their previous encounter with Gujarat Titans, the duo pulled off an impossible looking victory when everyone had lost hopes. And today, the two almost replicated heir heroics of last match giving a really tough time for SRH camp. Even though they lost today, they made it sure to try it all for a victory. And it showed in their batting performance, which was enthralling and entertaining.
The most notable thing of the two is their clean six hitting ability. In both these matches, the two hardly had a mishit, and middled most of the deliveries they faced. Both their innings coming while chasing at crucial times, shows how good they handle pressure. When most of their seniors failed to live up to the expectations, these two stood up for their team. They held their nerves and they complemented each other very well. All these qualities demonstrate the mindset with which they are playing, and the hunger which they have to win. The ease with which the two played in the last couple of matches reminded the ease with which Yuvraj and Dhoni played in 2005 - 2007 times.
Shashank, who hails from Chhatisgarh has had a good record in the domestic circuit already. He is the only player to have scored 150+ runs and scalped more than 5 wickets in the same match. He was already known by some of the fans the fans as he played the IPL previously while playing for SRH and Rajasthan Royals. Ashutosh, on the other hand is new to IPL, and made his debut against GT, when his 17 ball 31 massively helped his team cross the line. The pinch hitter who hails from Madhya Pradesh and represents Railways in domestic circuit, has continued to perform the same to what he does while playing for Railways.
And it's great to see these two perform. With today's partnership and fightback, they shut the mouth of critics who termed the previous performance as a one odd fluke performance. And now going ahead one wishes to see the two continue to perform the way they did today. They are the picks of the tournament as of now. And obviously they are a boon for Punjab. But looking at the broader picture, eventually if any of these get a chance going ahead to play for the national team, they'll be the perfect finisher team will look upto. Its too early to say, but even if they get a chance or not, the duo will be remembered very well by the fans for this particular season. Just like Asnodkar is remebered for 2008 IPL, Paul Valthaty is remembered for 2011 IPL, similarly these two would be remembered for this IPL. The only difference is, one would like to see atleast one of them go ahead and not be a one season wonder. Wishing both of them good luck for their future performances.
