Often life gives you moments when you're left embarrassed. It's up to you on how you tackle it and turn those into moments of glory. It's your efforts and actions which make your critics turn into your admirers. And Shashank Singh is a living example of it. The man which was rumoured to be mistakenly chosen by Punjab Kings franchise, turned to be their match winner, when even the team had lost hope. One will never understand the amount of disappointment he felt on that particular day post his selection, which was supposed to be a happy day for him. But now, everyone is happy to see him perform and display his calibre.
Shashank Singh, a cricketer from Chhatisgarh, left the entire nation wondering about him yesterday. With his quickfire knock of 61 runs in 29 balls, he powered Punjab Kings to an almost impossible looking chase. Wickets kept falling from one end while chasing a total of 200 runs, but he stood his ground and made sure he is taking his team beyond the finishing line. When even the seniors failed to put up the chase, and when the retained players couldn't do it, it was this player who was chosen as a mistake which gifted the 2nd win of the tournament for his team.
As Punjab celebrated their 2nd and a much needed victory of the season, Shashank's name started to gain fame across households. Because he was made fun of by a lot of people who knew the news about what happened in the auction. Whether his selection was intentional, or was it that the team wanted a 20 year old Shashank Singh, will still remain the a mystery. The franchise however made it sure that they are backing their player when they made a public statement about the same. And most certainly the team will now never question their decision of choosing the older one who has a proven track record of performing in the domestic circuit.
The first and the only cricketer to have a 150+ score and to scalp 5 wickets in the same match, Shashank Singh had already showed that he is very well capable of the level he is now getting to play. Earlier he did get a chance to feature for Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad, but most people got to know about him due to the widespread news about his selection. Yet unbothered by all what's happening in and around the web, he worked hard to show what he is capable of. And after a golden duck in the first match of this IPL, he played an effective cameo of 21 runs of 8 balls again RCB. And yesterday, with 6 fours and 4 sixes, he made sure his name is now remembered by everyone who watches cricket.
Shashank Singh's story teaches a very important lesson to believe in yourself. When the world made fun of him, in spite of the mistake not being from his side, he silently continued to work hard. And the success he enjoys today is because of the constant hustle he faced, and the hurdles he overcame. Once Sachin Tendulkar said that "if people throw stones at you, turn then into milestones". And living up to what God of cricket said, the 32 year old Shashank set an example. Although he might not be the best player India has or will ever have, he will be remembered as the one who rose up, when no one believed in him. And hence, we congratulate him his success and for setting an example and we wish to see many more such amazing performances from him.
