Known to many as a talented batter, the Indian stalwart has impressed everyone with his leading abilities. Confident and proactive as a captain, Shreyas played his part to perfection to lead KKR. It was due to his amazing captaincy that one saw Delhi Capitals in the final of tournament in 2021, and KKR in the finals of the ongoing IPL. Amongst all the Indian captains in this season, it is his team which has excelled the most and continues to do so by becoming the first one to reach the finals. When he was firstly chosen as a captain, it was not known on how well can he carry the burden of leadership. But he did it beautifully.

Given a chance to lead Delhi Capitals in 2018 in the middle of the season, he made an immediate impact by scoring a magnificent 93 runs off just 40 deliveries. In the matches ahead he performed well and excelled greatly, due to which he was retained by DC in 2019 and 2020 editions. Under his leadership, Delhi Capitals entered into the finals of the tournament for the very first time since its inception. Although his team lost the final, but his leadership was lauded by everyone. He skipped the 2021 IPL due to an injury, and joined KKR for the role of captaincy. And in his 2nd edition as a captain of KKR, he has already knocked the doors of the final.

The biggest advantage of Iyer is that he doesn't let the pressure of captaincy affect his individual game. He is a clever reader of situations, and uses bowlers perfectly. He also sets food field placements which give his bowlers the support they desire. He is confident to call out on his seniors at times, and he loves to prove everyone that he is right. Very cleverly, he puts pressure on the opposition by beautiful rotation of bowlers and fielders and he doesn't let any unfavorable situation affect him and his team. Which is why, he excels as a captain. He has done it for Mumbai in domestic season,in IPL for Delhi Capitals and now is doing it for Kolkata Knight Riders.

The way Shreyas was going back in 2020, it seemed like he will be assigned the task of leading Senior Men in Blue within the next 4-5 years. But the injury cost him his place in Indian team, and also Delhi Capitals, from where his antics as a captain went unnoticed for some time. But fortunately now, the world can witness his leadership skills. He is a rare combination of a player with extreme arrogance and attitude, blended with a calm head. The attitude allows him to get aggressive, and his calm head allows him to stay focused even when he is aggressive. Which is why he makes a good leader. Without a doubt, Shreyas Iyer is a natural leader and one would expect him to lead the senior India side in the coming 4-5 years.
