The T20 series between Australia and South Africa began with a bang for Aussie team, as they rattled the Protea team to win the first match by a mammoth 111 runs. Skipper Mitchell Marsh was instrumental in the victory as he led from the front playing a captains knock of 92 runs off just 49 balls. He led the team having 6 debutants to a clinical victory, making a statement of what their intentions for the upcoming major tournaments are.
The only thing which went in Proteas' favour was the toss. Winning the toss they asked Australia to bat, a decision which backfired. Aussies lost Head quickly, but Mitch was ready to give a tough time to opponents. And he lit the Kingsmead with his firepower. A disciplined and clinical innings from him saw 13 boundaries and couple of sixes. He stood firm, and when wickets fell from other end, he was joined by Tim David who unleashed his prowess. The hard hitter went on to score 64 runs off 28 deliveries and complemented the skipper really well. Their efforts resulted in a good Aussie score as the scorecard showed 226 runs at the end of Aussie innings.
A daunting total already was a challenge for South Africa, and further the Aussie bowlers did the job of decimating the former's lineup and confidence. The Aussie bowling pierced the Protea bowling line-up, who fell like pack of cards and could only manage to reach a small total of 115 runs before all their batters were sent back to the pavilion. In process, the debutant Tanveer Sangha impressed everyone by scalping 4 wickets conceding 31 runs. In addition to this, Stoinis, Spencer, and Abbott grabbed 3,2 and 1 respectively to seal the victory. Hendricks, who hit a half-century was the lone warrior for South Africa. Barring him, none of the batters could prove their effectiveness as they succumbed to pressure, leading to a huge Aussie victory.
The victory will alleviate the confidence of a young Aussie team. 6 debutants playing in the side, and with a lesser experienced guys and the Australians managed to win big against a full strength South African squad. Mitchell Marsh's leadership skills look up to the mark, and going ahead these are great signs for Australia in the shortest format of the game played at the international level. Looking ahead going for the world cup in October, the Aussie team looks good. Few of the members playing in the current series will be a part of the squad, and them joined by likes of Smith and colleagues would even further strengthen Australia's case.
