Indian origin Kenyan all rounder Pushkar Sharma has made it to the Purple Caps in the Shree Cutchi Leva Patel Samaj Premier League, happening in Nairobi this year. In a bid which started with a base price of 500000 points, ended with a whopping 1450000 points for the southpaw.
Having played for Kenya senior team, and having left a long lasting impression while playing for Ruaraka A sports club, there was no doubt that the franchises were going to be at war to bid for the left handed stalwart. And it happened exactly as thought, with most of the teams bidding for him, and eventually the Purple Caps managing to get the all-rounder in their squad.
The star of Kenyan cricket, he has been in great touch since the past two years. In the 2021 NPCA League, he amassed a total of 841 runs in 14 matches, consisting of 4 centuries and 3 half centuries. His efforts that year helped Ruaraka reach in the top 4 for the first time in NPCA league. In 2022 as well, he amassed 500+ runs for Ruaraka A in the same league. Due to his consistent performances in the domestic circuit, he was offered a well-deserved place in the Kenya National Team for 2024 T20 World Cup sub regional qualifiers in November 2022.
Always having the spark in him, Pushkar Sharma had previously led the Mumbai U-16 team consisting of big players like Pritivi Shaw, Arjun Tendulkar, Agni Chopra. In the Mumbai circuit he often received praises from seniors who said that Pushkar has a god-gifted flick shot. His talent is always appreciated wherever he gets to play. And similar was his fate in Kenya, when not just the players, but also the umpires were impressed by the young sensation's batting.
Having known him since past few years, I personally know him very well and understand how much efforts he has taken to reach to this level. Having all the talent he has, and the ability to work hard since a very young age, it was bound to see him bat at the higher level. In addition to his sublime skills, it is his humility which keeps him grounded, something which I have personally seen. And knowing all these e factors he has blended together , there was hardly any doubt that he will be the best.
A glimpse of it Kenya has already seen, and now it's time for him to show what he is made of in the Shree Cutchi Leva Patel Samaj Premier League. His inclusion in the side has given a perfect balance of hard hitting opening batter, and a bowler who can swing for the Purple Caps. And the form he is in for the last two years, it is evident that he will own this tournament. Wishing him all the best for the tournament ahead.
