Today the much awaited high voltage match between India and Pakistan is supposed to happen. The encounter between the two teams is always the marquee match of the tournament. Specially looking at what happened between the two on the last two occasions of T20 world cups makes this contest even more interesting. And now with the Indian team high on confidence due to the victory, facing the Pakistan team who suffered a humiliating defeat would be an encounter worth watching.
Looking at the current situation of the teams, one can easily differentiate the confidence levels of the two. Indian team will be high on confidence after beating Ireland clinically. On the other hand Pakistan is as the wrath of fans for losing the match against USA. The result of which the team sits at the bottom of table, inspite of being a test playing nation. So looking at the current standings, it's fair to say that India will be the favourites to win the game. But it's not as simple as it looks to be.
Pakistan is known for surprising everyone at the most unexpected moments. Which is why one sees their team lose in easy looking games like the one which happened with USA few days back and with Zimbabwe in 2022 World Cup. And on occasions, when no one hopes from their team to perform, they end up doing their best. The same was witnessed in the remainder of 2022 T20 world cup post their defeat against Zimbabwe, when they ended up being the finalists. Which is why they shouldn't be taken lightly.
And to add to their strength is their pace bowling line-up. Shaheen, Amir, Naseem and Harris are bowling beautifully. Plus Indian batter's woes against left arm seamers can make matters worse for India, and favourable for Pakistan. With the team already in a do or die position, they'll come out all guns blazing. And the Nassau pitch would aid the pacers greatly. The same would potentially happen with the Indian bowling line-up consisting of Bumrah, Siraj and Arshdeep. Although the Pak lineup looks better on paper, the Indian lineup can do wonders too.
The fate of match will be heavily dependent on toss, as the team to win toss will chose to bowl. Atleast in the ideal scenario they should chose to bowl and harness the conditions to put pressure on the opposition team. The team batting first has a greater chance to be on the backfoot initially. Which is why the toss would play a much significant role in the outcome of the game, exactly the same way it did back in 2021 World Cup. The team bowling first looks to have a great chance of ending up on the winning side.
However, in that case, still India has an advantage. The Pakistan top order consisting of Babar Azam, Rizwan and Fakhar Zaman have a higher threat to crumble under pressure if asked to bat first. The likes of Rohit and Virat would have a comparatively low risk of being at the receiving end while batting first. And even in the worst case if Rohit crumbles under pressure, Virat will ensure that one end is firmly held. So it looks like India has an upper hand on Pakistan this time.
Looking at all the possibilities it looks like the same would happen. Only thing which India could change is the batting position of Rishabh Pant. Someone like Pant coming a little late down the order makes more impact than him coming at the initial stages. And if the team wants to experiment, they could send Dube head of Pant and Surya. In ideal case it would be Virat and Rohit opening, followed by Surya, Dube, Pandya and Pant. But nevertheless, the current setup also looks pretty good. And India look to be a better equipped side on any given day on this wicket. Then the current situation of both the teams also heavily favour Men in Blue. And one can hope to see them emerge victorious.
