Siddharth Kaul recently joined the Northamptonshire for County cricket, and immediately making an impact, he grabbed a 5-wicket haul on his debut itself. He joins the elite list of overseas bowlers to get a 5-for on their County debut. Signing only a 3 match-deal as a replacement for Australian Chris Tremin, the Indian star has already impressed everyone with his bowling. Kaul also joined the list of a flurry of Indians who have played the County cricket, with even the likes of Cheteshwar Pujara still playing in the league.
Siddharth Kaul is a prominent name in the Indian domestic circuit. He has a total of 284 wickets in domestic cricket, and has always bowled exceptionally well for the team he played. He is a regular member of the IPL and has played for many teams. He was also a member of the India U-19 world cup winning squad of 2008 which was led by Virat Kohli. He has represented the nation for a handful of matches. This IPL however he remained unsold as none of the franchise showed interest in having him in the squad. Which is why in the midst of IPL, the stalwart grabbed the opportunity which he got from Northamptonshire.
He became the only second player from India to be a part of Northamptonshire cricket team, with Karun Nair being the first one. And continuing to hold the Indian performance high, he scalped 5 wickets against Gloucestershire. His first county wicket was Cameron Bancroft from Australia, the same player who was one of the members suspended in the sandpaper gate scandal, and Kaul trapped him plumb in front of tht wickets. He then went on to dismiss Oliver Prince, James Bracey, Zafar Gohar and Josh Shah to claim his 5 wickets. Kaul finished with good figures of 5 wickets off 29 overs at the cost of just 76 runs.
Indians have a rich history of playing and excelling County cricket. Right from Kapil Dev to Sachin Tendulkar, most of Indian players have played the English tournament. Recently, Karun Nair, Prithvi Shaw were a few names who proved their worth and regained their form while playing in County. Currently, Cheteshwar Pujara is also playing and excelling in the ongoing Championship. And with these, the name of Siddharth Kaul also now stands tall in the same list. Although looking at his age, and the competition for the Indian team, it would be fair to say that he might never get a chance to be in the Blues. But the 33 year old still continues to perform well to show his love for the game.
