This entire series is one which fans want to forget. The performance of Indian team since the past few days has been terrible. And barring a few matches, this entire series is a disaster. The series which was not considered to be one of the important series, turned out to be the one which showed the loopholes in the team, which need to be rectified on priority. Indians were at the receiving end of a defeat in the series thought to be easy for India.

The Indian skipper who once said that India can pick 3 teams and defeat any team in the world, eventually lost the series against a country which failed to even qualify in the World Cup 2023. "It's okay to be unique" was said jokingly by the skipper, and the series turned out to be unique, as West Indies defeated India in any bilateral series in the last 17 years. And in the end, the disappointment for the Indian fans continued, ending their short-lived joy of winning 2 T20s.

There are a flurry of reasons for this defeat. The primary reason is the skipper and his tactics which were a little difficult to understand. A fantastic player of the white ball, Hardik Pandya has failed to make his mark as international captain. His field placements are not good, his bowling changes are poor, and his team selection is equally bad. If all this was not enough, his gesture of denying Tilak Varma in the 3rd T20 didn't go well with the fans either. Overall, there is hardly any positive to take from Hardik's captaincy.

To add to the woes further, it was the casual approach by the team which heavily cost them the game. Barring Tilak Varma, no one looked to take this series too seriously. When a player plays on the field, his energy, enthusiasm and intent reflects in his body language. Most of the players either have become lethargic as a result of the assurance of IPL, or have started to take things for granted. Poor scheduling is adding fuel to the lethargy which is inhibited in the players.

If all these reasons aren't good enough, over confidence of the team and the skipper had a significant effect on the outcome of the game. It reflected in most of the dismissals when players got out playing rash shots, at times when they were cruising well. The result of over confidence is the false sense of accomplishness which occupies one's mind. And the same false sense led the captain to take some horrible decisions which even questioned the basic sense of the game.

A strategic masterstroke and a foolish decision go hand in hand. The only difference in between the two is poor homework, poor planning and equally poor execution. And India did exactly the same. The skipper took some bold moves, which he might have thought to be a masterstroke, but were nothing less than foolish decisions. When ego overpowers a person, it results in such decisions. And a result of all these was a disaster of a series for the Indian team, something which no one would've believed a month ago.

The over experimentations in the Indian camp are questioning the authority of even the head coach in the form of Rahul Dravid. A sensible guy like Rahul Dravid taking such decisions is a little difficult to believe. And if it is true, then it surely is a tough pill to swallow. It seems like he has almost none or less say in the team, and most of the powerful members of the squad are the driving factors behind these decisions.

Obviously, the series, just like all the other one's did have some positives. Tilak Varma, who was playing his debut series has impressed everyone. His temparement, technique and understanding of the game is wonderful, and has helped him become the highest run getter for India in the series. Furthermore, Yashasvi Jaiswal's inclusion in the side also was proved right as he announced his arrival in T20 on his 2nd appearance. With these two, India might just have solved their left handed batter crisis. And furthermore, Kuldeep Yadav's resurrection in the series was something to watch and remember for the fans.

But apart from these, most of the things went wrong for India. This series was a reminder for the ranked 1 team in T20s , that never underestimate any other team. This series was the one everyone would like to forget, but would still teach a hard learned lesson to the Indian team. And if the team keeps themselves grounded, and rethinks about what mistakes they did, eventually to improve it, only then the end result will be happy for everyone. Hopefully, it does happen in the days to come.
