The earlier month, Rayudu had announced his availability for Texas Super Kings in the Major League Cricket happening in United States. However, taking a step back, he has now withdrawn from playing in the league. The reason for it lies in the policies of BCCI which have suddenly changed in the past few days.
According to sources, the new policy of BCCI will have a "cooling-off period" of certain months, where player cannot participate in any other leagues, in spite of his retirement. The duration of cooling period is not known as there is no official announcement about it yet. However, this is said to he the reason why Rayudu has withdrawn his name from the MLC, just before a week of its inaugural edition.
Whether the information about cooling-off period is true or not, time will tell. But if is true, then it is not a good news for any player. Any player who is affiliated to BCCI is not allowed to participate in any league in the world , which is not organised by BCCI. And therefore, Indians witness foreign players coming in IPL, but cannot see their superstars playing in other leagues. But any retires player, who is no more affiliated to the richest board is given noc from the board and is allowed to play anywhere in the world.
However, with the cooling-off period introduced by BCCI, it won't be the same. The player retiring , having no more affiliations with board will still have to wait after certain period to get no objection certificate from the board. By doing so, the board will have the right over the players even post their retirement to choose if they want any player to play in foreign leagues or not.
As a cricket fan, this is not what we want to see. If the info about cooling-off period is true, then this decision from BCCI is in a very poor taste. A retired player should have the liberty to play according to his will. And in this particular case, earlier there was no issue from the board, hence the noc was granted. However, not granting him the noc due to sudden change of rules will have a negative impression of Indian players in the foreign leagues. It's clear now, that Rayudu won't play in this league, but let's hope to see a change in the policies of the board for the betterment of players. What are your thoughts on this ?
