Hitting sixes is a thing every batter loves. And hitting six sixes in an over is a dream for many. It is even difficult to achieve this rare feat in the club level tournaments. And then there are a few batters who have proudly done it at the highest level of cricket at the international stage. Only 4 batters had previously achieved this unique feat of sending the ball in the stands 6 times in an over. And yesterday the 5th batter achieved it. The match between Nepal and Qatar saw Dipendra Singh Airee making it to the record books by doing the same.

Dipendra, who is known for his hard hitting prowess came to bat at a situation which was balanced for both the teams. Only Kushal Malla and Aasif Sheikh had put on some good runs till then. Airee came on the crease and didn't waste his time to get going. By the end of 19th over, he was on 28 off 15 deliveries, and Nepal scorecard read 174 runs. And then in the last over he smashed Kamran Khan for 6 sixes, eventually becoming the only 3rd batter to do so in the shortest format of the game. His runs proved important to the team as they won the match by 32 runs.

Many who have already watched him bat, know what he is capable of. The hard hitter from Nepal is a clean hitter of the ball and plays attacking innings right after he is out to bat. In the last year, he already made it to the headlines by breaking the long standing record of Yuvraj Singh, when he hit a half century off mere 9 deliveries. He surpassed Yuvraj and Gayle who has scored their half centuries in 12 deliveries. And while doing so, he played knock of 52 runs off 10 balls, with a strike rate of 520 which till date is the highest for any batter playing more than 10 balls.

In the same match which happened in between Nepal and Mongolia, the pinch hitter had hit six consecutive sixes. But those came in 2 different overs. He hit the first 5 to Altankhuyag, and the 6th one was hit to Erdenebulgan in the immediate over which followed. What made this unique feat even more special was the fact that those 6 deliveries were the first 6 legal deliveries he had faced in the match. Already the Nepalese team had good runs in the match, and his heroics further helped them to cross the 300-run mark in T20 match, becoming the first and only occasion of the same happening in an international encounter. And yesterday, he yet again raised many eyebrows with his power hitting.

With it, Airee becomes the 5th and the latest batter to smash 6 sixes in an over. Herschelle Gibbs, Yuvraj Singh, Kieron Pollard and Jaskaran Malhotra had previously achieved the feat. Herschelle Gibbs did it in 2007 World cup against Netherlands. Yuvraj did the same in 2007 T20 world cup against England. Pollard emulated the same against Srilanka and Jaskaran Malhotra who plays for USA did it an year back. With Airee doing it for Nepal, the small yet highly passionate cricketing nation became the 5th country to hold this unique record after India, South Africa, West Indies and United States. With the way Dipendra Singh Airee batted, it was only a matter of time when something like this came from him. And gladly it happened. Looking to see him emulate the same against test playing nations now. We congratulate him for his achievement and wish him best luck for future endeavours.
