The world cup happening once in every 4 years is the grandest event in the gentlemen's game. Cricket fans from all over the globe dearly wait for this particular event to unfold. It's an event where all the test playing nations play for glory, and associate nations play to get recognised. Hence, the stage of world cup is the one where every team playing and every match deserves equal amount of respect and coverage. It has always been the case in all the world cups happened till now. But this world cup it seems like there is a bias!

There are total 10 teams participating in the world cup which comprises of 45 league stage matches, and there is immense focus only on one match: India vs Pakistan. Right from the press conference, the organizers have made is sure that most of the questions are revolving around these two teams and the encounter between the two. Even all the other 8 captains were asked about the Indo Pak rivalry, when the main objective of press conference was to motivate the teams by making speak about themselves more.

The World Cup is an event to remember for the fans. And so are the grand opening ceremonies. Every single world cup since till date have had their opening ceremonies to honour the teams participating in it. And likewise was expected when the event was solely hosted by the richest board in the cricketing world. To utter disappointment of the fans, nothing of such kind was arranged. Fans, if not the players were already disappointed, and what followed was even worse. The board which cleared stating to not have any opening ceremony was keen on keeping a similar ceremony for the match between India and Pakistan.

The grandeur of the match is surely great, but the ceremony for a match rather than tournament is utterly disrespectful to all the other nations playing. And it doesn't stamp the authority of being the hosts as well as powerhouse of cricket, but it sends a very wrong message saying we care for the tournament, but we care more for the one particular match for certain viewership gains from it. In an attempt to prove superiority, one does not have to necessarily show others ad inferior. Unfortunately, the same has happened in this world cup. And the board shouldn't have any issue going ahead in other world cups if our team is at the receiving end of such events someday. What's your views on this?
